OHIP COVERED DOCTOR’S APPOINTMENT
OHIP, or the Ontario Health Insurance Plan, is the province’s healthcare plan. Through OHIP, the province pays for many of the health services that Ontarians need. To qualify for OHIP coverage, you need to apply. Once approved, you’ll receive an Ontario health card.
Your OHIP card proves that you’re covered by the province’s health plan. That’s why you need to show it every time you visit a doctor or emergency room, have a medical test, or go for surgery.

SERVICES COVERED BY OHIP
Doctors On Demand
The following types of doctor’s appointments are free of charge and covered by OHIP:
In-office doctor’s visit
Walk-in clinic
Virtual appointments

Medication
Through OHIP, more than 5,000 drug products are free to anyone not covered by a private plan and aged 24 years or younger. Anyone under the age of 24 is automatically enrolled. Coverage stops on your 25th birthday, or if you become covered by a private plan.
Those eligible for OHIP simply need to give the pharmacist their valid OHIP card number and a valid prescription.
Ontarians who are 65 years of age or older automatically qualify for the Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) program. The program is for residents of Ontario only and prescriptions must be filled in an Ontario pharmacy. Your OHIP card must be valid too. Like OHIP, the ODB program covers most of the costs of approximately 5,000 prescription drug products.

If you need to visit a hospital, OHIP covers:
Doctor and nursing services
Diagnostic tests (such as blood tests and x-rays)
Medications for in patients (once a patient is discharged, prescribed medications are not covered)
